Harvesting digital scans from a wallpaper sample book by Christy, Shephard, and Garrett dated 1890, I created a data set of patterns and ran through a machine learning algorithm that had been trained to see bird illustrations. From the results, I selected four samples and had them printed on Silicone Edge Graphics to fit into custom built light boxes. I then created a new wallpaper pattern to go with the lightboxes based on repeating motifs found in the original 19th century wallpaper.
